INSURANCE CLAIM PROCESS

Understanding the Insurance Claim Process

1. Inspection

Before calling your insurance company, be sure to call us for a thorough roof inspection. Filing a claim without sufficient damage can potentially raise your premiums.

2. Filing a Claim

After verifying you have enough damage for a claim you will need a couple of important details, your policy number and the date and time of the storm that caused the damage. You may contact your agent directly to file your claim, or call the claims hotline. Once you’ve filed your claim, you will be provided with a claim number. This will be your reference point for the rest of the process. This is also a good time to verify Replacement Cost Policy and Building Code Coverage.

3. Adjuster Appointment

Once you’ve filed your claim, an adjuster will contact you within 48 hours to set up an appointment to scope the damages of your property. Once you have a date and time, promptly contact Lousberg Roofing & Exteriors if you would like us to meet with your insurance adjuster.  Our representative and the adjuster will inspect your roof and surrounding property for storm damage; together this will simplify the negotiation process. If we are unable to connect with the field adjuster, we can always negotiate with the desk adjuster after the scope has been completed.

4. Scope of Work

Based off the inspection, the adjuster will create a scope of work, which will act as an initial estimate to begin repairs to your home. This is typically received within 7-10 business days after the adjuster appointment.

5. Supplementing

It is important to provide a copy of your estimate to Lousberg Roofing & Exteriors. As soon as you receive the copy our supplementing team will review and supplement for any building code, missed items or items that may arise during installation.

6. Repairs Made

The Lousberg Roofing & Exteriors team will complete storm damage repairs to your home and promptly final bill your insurance.

Explanation of Payments

You will generally receive at least two payments for your storm claim. Additional payments issued will be due to any supplements submitted and accepted by insurance.

  • ACV Payment – This will be your initial payment and generally received along with your first set of paperwork. ACV stands for Actual Cash Value. It is determined based on a percentage of how old your damaged property is, compared to its expected lifespan. This percentage is your Depreciation and will not be paid until all work is completed. Since you are liable for your Deductible, insurance will also reduce your payment by this amount. Your ACV payment = RCV – Depreciation – Deductible.  This amount is due the day of your installation.

  • RCV Payment – stands for Replacement Cost Value is the market value of your damaged property as of the date your property claim is completed. This amount is due upon completion of your project.  You will usually receive this check about two weeks after LR&E sends a final bill to your insurance.

  • Depreciation – The last payment is issued once your property has been restored and a final invoice is sent by Lousberg Roofing & Exteriors to your insurance company. It will be for your depreciation and may include code items. If you have an ACV only policy, the final payment may be any code items supplemented. This payment is due when the check arrives from your insurance.

Lousberg Roofing & Exteriors does not require any payments be made until your materials are delivered and the project is underway.
